Unmukt means – azaad, free, unleashed! Founded in October 2017, At Unmukt, we seek to RECONNECT people, with NATURE, with PEOPLE, and with THEMSELVES. Unmukt Creativity Center, based out of Khandagiri, Bhubaneswar, is a space where kids choose, co-create, and co-excel. Well, what does that mean?
At Unmukt, we are all teachers and students at the same time. Our kids come because they want to come. Our kids choose what to learn. Together, we create things. We make mistakes. We learn from those mistakes. And become better persons in the process. Through all this, we learn to live with Nature, and not against it.
Colorful and artistic walls adorned with paintings, plants – indoor and outdoor, a library room, a plethora of musical instruments, and a workspace set up from waste products – that’s our Creativity Center. This Center represents the soul of Unmukt, a starting point in our quest towards undoing the many wrongs of an education system that has paralyzed the country’s students since independence.
We operate during non-school hours. While we cater primarily to underprivileged children, kids from all sections of the society come to us. Our education model revolves around the idea of HOLISTIC LEARNING. Art & Craft, Computational Thinking, Robotics, Dance, English, Environment, Self-defense, Skating, and Sports are our regular activities. Our library comprising books in five languages - Odia, Hindi, Sanskrit, English, and Bengali, hosts a diverse collection of books on fiction, poetry and short stories, business, history, environment, architecture, competitive exams, and a special section dedicated to children. It's open for reading and lending to children from the nearby bastis on all days of the week. We also have special activities – like Storytelling, Drama, Sculpting, Playing musical instruments, etc.
Do visit Unmukt Creativity Center sometime. Our kids will be delighted to meet you! There’s the lure of our secret herbal tea. There’s the traditional tour of Unmukt.
