In midst of the pandemic, at Unmukt, our children never fail to bring a ray of light for us.
Recently, Ankita, class VI, and Truptimayee, class VII came and said that "Didi, we want to open a library at home, we need books from Unmukt's library. Younger kids can't go to Unmukt so we will give them books from there."
This was surely the best line we have heard in 2021 so far!
We feel immensely glad and grateful to you for showing support to complete the "Build a Book Tree" drive!
We are pleased to share the attached newsletter with such small stories of hope, updates of our work, and immense gratitude for the support from volunteers, mentors, well-wishers, donors, and everyone.
We are writing to you from Bhubaneswar, the temple city of India which is nowadays infamous as the hottest city of India. We have worked really hard to achieve this title. We have cut 1.85 crore trees in 10 years to make better highways and planted just 15% in return.
Meanwhile, our children are still out of schools and feeling miserable sitting under the asbestos roofs at their homes. One of them said "दीदी, उन्मुक्त कितना ठंडा रहता है, पता है मैं तीन रातों से नहीं सोयी, गर्मी की वजह से। आज कल रात को भी इतना गर्म रहता है।"
Check out our Newsletter to sneak a peek into the lives of our little champs! We thank you volunteers, donors, and well-wishers for being the constant support to us!
It's March 2021. Bhubaneswar is hot. The years keep getting hotter. The Unmukt plants cry in protest. The vaccines might have come. But our children are still out of school and inside zoom. What are they learning? Oh wait... are they happy? How happy? How sad?
What about us? What have we been growing in our backyard? But wait! SSSSHHHH! Someone has awaken this summer (sorry spring!). It's a bird, it's a tree, it's the UNMUKT BOOK TREE. Would you like to touch the tree? May be help it spread its wings?
At Unmukt, we're full of stories. And we thought, you'd love to hear some of them. Because you are one of us. Our stories are yours'.
